Pop star Madonna hosted a celebrity-studded event on Wednesday Feb. 6 on the lawns of the United Nations to aid Malawi orphans, the U.N. Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Drew Barrymore was a co-chair of the event and showed up with her constant companion, Mac boyfriend Justin Long.
In other DB news, Whip It! marks the directorial debut of the actress/producer “I’ve been working toward the goal of directing my entire life,” Drew said. This “is a story that really spoke to me.”
The $10-million film will begin shooting in Texas this summer and will star young powerhouse Ellen Page. Two of my favorite people collaborating on a film together? I have high hopes for this one.
The Juno actress is trading her onscreen baby bump for elbow pads to play a hell-raising roller derby queen. “I can’t wait to kick ass on wheels!” she told Variety.
Ellen Page has confidence in her future director. “I really admire how Drew constantly challenges herself as an artist. She’s proven herself as an actress and a producer, and I have no doubt she’ll bring great vision and creativity to the director’s chair.”
